HTC Nexus rumored release on October 4
After the flagship HTC 10 miss, HTC is once again given the chance to make the next Nexus that will come next to LG V20 to have Android Nougat right out of the box.
LG V20 takes the first spot to be the first Android smartphone to ever carry the latest Android Nougat when it gets shipped and sold to consumers. When will Google’s own Nexus smartphone have its own? It is October 4, courtesy of HTC.
Evan Blass leaked out word that Google will be sending out Android 7.0 Nougat alongside a security update with the August 5 patch level. It doesn’t necessarily have to come out that day, though the dates are big indicators of when they should be released. The latest Android Security Bulletin says that existing (and applicable) Nexus devices should get a single OTA with the August 5 patch level. Whenever that gets sent out, it’ll be an indicator that Android Nougat is at a stable point for release.
LG debuts its V20 next month as first Android Nougat phone in the world, much less in the OEM space. Insider sources claim another motivation for the chaebol to pull up a fall flagship release and that is to chase after Samsung’s early Note event as well as a slightly redesigned iPhone launch.
By scheduling a Nexus hardware launch past that date, Google gets out of the way of its longtime manufacturer partner, LG, weans off any initial release bugs of Nougat and can take advantage of the holiday sales period.
