iPhone Tips: How to activate a new iPhone 7

You did it. You bought a new iPhone 7. Now, to get you started, you need to activate it. Here’s how to do it right.

Your new iPhone 7 needs to be set up and activated before any real use. It would need your information such as your Apple ID and other preferences you might want for security and personalization.

After buying your new iPhone, think of the following steps to make sure you got it all right.

Step-by-step Guide on how to Activate your iPhone 7

  1. To turn the phone on, press and hold the Power key.

  2. Press the Home key.

  3. Tap the preferred language.

  4. Tap the country or region.

  5. Tap the preferred Wi-Fi network. If there are no Wi-Fi networks available, tap Use Cellular Connection.

  6. If prompted, enter the selected Wi-Fi network Password, then tap Join.

  7. Tap an option for Location Services.

  8. Place your finger or thumb on the home key to set up Touch ID. Otherwise, tap Set Up Touch ID Later. To add Touch ID at any time, from the home screen, go to Settings, tap Touch ID & Passcode, and then tap Add a Fingerprint.

  9. Tap Continue.

  10. To create a passcode, enter a six digit passcode. To select a different format for the passcode, tap Passcode Options, then tap the preferred option.

  11. Re-enter the passcode to confirm.

  12. Tap an option for Apps & Data. An Apple ID is required in order to use some features of the iPhone such as iCloud, iTunes, App Store, iMessage, etc.

  13. Enter the email address that is associated with your Apple ID, then enter the Password. Tap Next. To add or set up an Apple ID later, from the home screen, tap Settings, then tap iCloud. Enter your Apple ID credentials and tap Sign In, or tap Create a new Apple ID to set up an account.

  14. Read the Terms and Conditions, then tap Agree.

  15. Tap Next.

  16. To add a card to Apple Pay, using the iPhone camera, position your card within the frame displayed on the screen. Alternatively, enter the card number manually by tapping Enter Card Details Manually. Otherwise, tap Set Up Later in Wallet.

  17. Tap an option for iCloud Keychain. If prompted, tap Continue.

  18. Tap an option for Siri, Apple’s virtual assistant.

  19. If the option to Set Up Siri was selected in the previous step, follow the prompts to teach Siri to respond to your voice. To skip the training process, tap Set Up “Hey Siri” Later.

  20. Tap Continue.

  21. Review the message for Diagnostics, then tap an option.

  22. Tap an option for App Analytics.

  23. To change the vibration setting for the Home key, tap Get Started. To skip this step, tap Customize Later in Settings. To change the setting at a later time, from the home screen, tap Settings, tap General, and then tap Home Button.

  24. To set the vibration setting for the Home key, tap a number, and then press the Home key to test the setting. Once the preferred vibration option is set, tap Next.

  25. Tap Choose a View for Display Zoom.

    • STANDARD is the normal display setting, and fits more on the screen at once.

    • ZOOMED shows larger text, buttons, and controls.

  26. Tap a display option, then tap Next.

  27. Tap Get Started.

  28. The phone is now ready for use.
