What’s inside the BlackBerry Motion?

There’s a new BlackBerry coming to town, the Motion, and while it’s not quite as noteworthy as the return-of-the-keyboard KEYone, it’s a nice mid-range handset with some interesting features.

After teetering on the brink of collapse a few years ago, BlackBerry is rebuilding itself with a TCL partnership to create Android smartphones that place an emphasis on security and enterprise features. As it fleshes out its offerings, the company’s latest smartphone is the BlackBerry Motion, a mid-range device that’s bound for the Middle East. With an all-touch design and an IP67 waterproof rating, the BlackBerry Motion is designed to “empower the most challenging, on-the-go lifestyle.”

Specs for the Motion include 5.5-inch 1080p display, Snapdragon processor, 4GB of RAM, dual SIM card slots, and a 4000mAh battery with Quick Charge 3.0 support.

TCL and BlackBerry are releasing the Motion in select markets throughout the Middle East. Pricing is set at AED 1,699/SAR 1,699, which converts to about $460 USD, a respectable price for a mid-range smartphone. An initial launch in limited markets will begin in mid-October, with more markets being added during Q4.

That phone is now official. The phone will come to market as the BlackBerry Motion, and it resembles the popular KEYone in many ways. The 5.5-inch Full HD LCD display is pretty standard for this price range — the phone will debut for the equivalent of around $450 — while inside the Snapdragon 625 SoC is paired with 4GB of RAM, 32GB of storage, a 4000mAh battery, and IP67 water resistance. There’s also a 12MP rear camera with an f/2.0 aperture, an 8MP front-facing camera, and a front fingerprint sensor. It launches with the same version of Android 7.1 that came with the KEYone.
