Apple iPad: How to have your iPad replaced by Apple

Want the full Apple Care experience when your iPad doesn’t seem to work perfectly? Apple will send you a new iPad before you can return your old one. It’s the iPad Express Replacement.

What is Express Replacement Service?

Express Replacement Service is a benefit of your AppleCare+ coverage. We can send you a replacement iPad before you return your product to us. We’ll include packaging to return your damaged or non-working product.

How much does Express Replacement Service cost?

There’s no fee for the express service. Any fees you might pay will be for the replacement iPad.

Some iPad issues might be covered under warranty, AppleCare+, or consumer law. If your iPad issue is covered, your replacement iPad might not be subject to a fee. If your iPad issue isn’t covered, you’ll pay the out-of-warranty fee.

AppleCare+ also includes up to two incidents of accidental damage coverage to your iPad. Because accidental damage isn’t covered by the Apple Limited Warranty, you can use one of your AppleCare+ incidents to replace your iPad if it gets damaged. Each incident has a service fee, as shown below.

How do I return my original iPad?

We’ll send your replacement iPad with shipping materials and instructions. Your replacement will have factory settings. Return your original iPad to us within 10 business days of your request to avoid paying late fees.

Before you return your iPad to us, be sure to back up your data and prepare your iPad for replacement. Your replacement device will not have your data on it, and you’ll need to restore that data from your backup.
