Onward is like Counter Strike for virtual reality only with more angst and cool factor married to cool coordination and strategy among players.
- HTC Vive compatible
- Motion controllers
- Standing and Room scale mode
- Online Multiplayer
- Shooter, Strategy
Onward is finally here as the first real first person shooter for the HTC Vive that will revolutionize the genre for virtual reality. This takes a team of soldiers and create an initial feel of how the likes of Counter Strike would look like in VR. A very great game to try out with capable hardware and motion controllers to achieve high accuracy shooting and executing game strategy. As for the early access on the alpha version of the game, this is certainly on its first iteration which will even grow more polished as improvements and updates will roll out.
Onward is very realistic. Much like Insurgency, you get easily taken down with a single gunshot wound on any critical part of your virtual body. It also makes weapon choices reasonable giving a soldier a rifle or a long weapon plus a side arm and a combat knife. The gameplay is engaging as the distances on the wide game area can easily be assessed with a sniper scope.
It’s breathtakingly amazing. A good implementation of the genre that makes PC gaming a hit before virtual reality.
Okay, something is not right on some parts of the game it kinda ruin it overall. First, the hand animation is really off. It reloads the gun in a weird way with fingers not even convincing or trying to convince the player that it is picking something. It definitely needs some improvement. Next is the quality of the 3D materials. It looks very edgy and it’s definitely not very appealing for those who have spend on a high end PC and see something that looks like Counter Strike 1.0.
Don’t take us wrong, we love Counter Strike but Onward should have better VR graphics quality.
